Counseling is a way to address emotional, psychological or relationship concerns you or your family may be having. Generally, counselors meet with clients once a week for about 60 minutes to work toward resolving difficulties and achieving goals that clients and counselors have developed together. Individuals may be seen alone or with significant others in couples or family counseling.
Is individual therapy right for me?
You may want to consider beginning therapy when:
Relationships are not satisfying and you want to learn more about patterns you notice in personal relationships.
You sometimes have trouble with co-workers or finding or keeping a job – especially when others seem to have less difficulty coping.
You are frequently distressed about something that has happened in the past or you worry a great deal about what may happen in the future.
You feel anxiety, sad feelings, or have problems managing anger or tears.
You recognize behaviors and wonder if they are out of control or addictive.
You want to learn more.
You feel the need for support but do not have the kind of support available to you that seems to help.
You generally recognize you have a life that works but you want to gain insight into your innermost thoughts and feelings.
Adolescence is a time of rapid change and development. Teens go through a metamorphosis, from being children to being adults.
They struggle to individuate from their families of origin, and struggle to define their own identity.
Many times teens are left feeling overwhelmed, lost, and confused. Some act out, and some experience severe depression and anxiety.

Couples counseling helps partners (married or not) gain the skills necessary to resolve issues that interfere with achieving emotional well-being and prevent the enjoyment of satisfying, long-lasting relationships.

Many times social support plays an important role in helping us face challenges. Group counseling provides a safe, confidential setting where you can explore and grow with people who can relate to what you’re going through.
Counseling groups are usually, but not always, specialized by nature. They center on a particular topic, like anger, grief, or depression. Some groups may require a time commitment, but most just ask that you show up with a willingness to be open and honest with the group. Group therapy typically includes 6 to 12 participants working with 1 to 2 therapists on a related issue.
